A highlight of our honeymoon in Iceland

johanna C. Toronto, Canada.
My new husband and I spent the first few days of our honeymoon in this lovely apartment and couldn’t have been happier. We were warmly welcomed to a beautiful, comfotable, clean apartment and quickly felt at home. The space was ample, the decor very stylish, and in the kitchen and elsewhere we had everything we needed. The house itself is situated in an idyllic spot where you truly get a feel for what it means to live on the island.

From the apartment we were well situated for day trips, and our hosts couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly with suggestions for how to best spend our time in Iceland.

We are already planning our next trip back to Iceland, and will surely make this one of our stops. Thanks again for your outstanding hospitatlity- our honeymoon was an unforgettable one.

Yes, as nice as it looks!

We stayed here for only one night at the end of our trip, but I hope to come back. It is perfectly situated, 2/3 of the way to the airport, but also 15 minutes away from the Blue Lagoon. My family of 4 was very comfy in this apartment hard by the sea. Birgir’s hospitality was above and beyond – there was food in the ‘fridge, maps on the table and a proud Icelandic host who was happy to help with any detail… A few tips: 1) there are lots of things to do on the peninsula west of Reykjavik – I wish we had more time for hiking and exploring. 2) this apartment allows you to really “nail” the blue lagoon – you are so close that you can either go first think in the morning (before the crowds) or later in the day (at 5pm – it is open until 9), after the crowds leave. Worth noting…

We loved our time in Iceland

This was our first stop, but one of our favorite places on a month long, four country tour, and we will definatley be going back to Iceland for a longer visit. The apartment was spotless and beautiful, had the most incredible beds of the entire trip, and was perfectly comfortable for two adults and our 10 and 7 year old. The location is stunning, you are surrpounded by beauty and peace and quiet. Our 2 kids loved running around on the lawns and to the beach, not to mention the hot tub, and the loaction could not have been better for visiting the Blue Lagoon and Reykjavik. BJ and family were warm and helpful with recomendations on sights and restaurants, we had an amazing lobster feast the first night we arrived. It was great to meet some real Icelanders and we cant wait to visit again, maybe summer of 2012?,,,
not soon enough.

Nicely presented, welcoming with great hosts.

A very hospitable, family atmosphere, within a beautifully laid out cottage apartment central to the sights surrounding the capital, but not too close. The owner was happy to freely share his love of his home country and ensure we had a great timeIf you are looking for a holiday in Iceland this is a most delightful place to stay.As beaches go, well this is Iceland, I am certain you do not intend to swim — it is better to trip to the Blue Lagoon just a short drive away.

Very clean, excellent facilities, accessible from the capital and surrounds. Located on the cost with a putting course , abundant bird life and distant view of snow capped, glacial mountains, and in the other direction, lava plains, extinct volcanoes, (and a little further away active ones) steam vents, the Blue Lagoon, waterfalls and the such like. You will need a car of course and this is a great place to come home to.
I would most definitely recommend this to a friend, indeed when you leave you feel as though you are leaving a friend, a very good one.

A Beautiful Place to Stay in an Ideal Location

I fell in love with the photos on the Internet, and reality was even better than I had hoped. All three main rooms have excellent furnishings and are perfectly maintained. The bath is beautifully designed, and the large entry and hallway further increase the spacious feel. Our hosts, who have spent considerable time in the U.S., were warm and welcoming and guided us to some beautiful out-of-the-way hiking spots. Great birdwatching–from skuas to meadow pipits. Our two days here–at the end of a two-week trip–were the highlight of our stay in Iceland.

Superb house in an amazing location.

We stayed in this property as a house exchange rather than as a rental but I hope these comments are of help.

You don’t exactly come suddenly upon this property, as it is visible at distance along this beautiful stretch of rugged coastline, but it still makes an impact as you come close. Standing as it does in solitude with its white walls and red roof against a backdrop of blue see it looks superb – a real holiday location.

The views are tremendous with Reykjavik visible to the east, pointy Mount Keilir to the south and on a clear day (which was most days we were there) the snow capped Snoefelljokull to the north.

It was always a delight to walk down to and along the beach watching the terns or seals. Underwater was equally facinating with numerous crabs and fish amonst a mixed habitat of sand and rock.

The surrounding Reykjanes peninsula is a real troll hideaway. Just driving around the area past spectacular larva formations which make up the bulk of this area you realize how the legends arose – sometimes trolls are everywhere you look!

The deservedly best known tourist spot in Iceland is just a few miles away – the blue lagoon. It doesn’t disappoint but it is only the beginning of whats on offer especially if you like scenery and wide open spaces.

For culture, shopping and nightlife head to Reykjavik which is just 30 mins away along an excellent road. This is a capital like no other I have been to, small enough to walk around easily and so laid back you can even park your car right outside parliament!

Obviously if you have the time there are lots of fantastic places to see further afield. We had a great trip to the iceberg lake (Jokulsarlón) south of Vatnajokull via the infamous Eyjafjallajokull and another around Thingvallavatn lake but even if you stay more locally a great holiday is assured.

Finally I have to say the owners Birgir and Anna are delightful, friendly and helpful. They also speak excellent English so use their local knowledge. Enjoy.
